To understand reactive power compensation, we must first understand several concepts, "active power" and "reactive power" and "power factor"
1. active power

2. reactive power
reactive power, many electrical equipment are relying on the establishment of alternating magnetic field to stop energy conversion and transmission. Reactive power does not do any work, but it will occupy the capacity of the transmission and transformation equipment and reduce the application rate of the equipment. In short, active power is the power consumed by the equipment and converted into other energy. Reactive power, is to maintain the operation of equipment, but does not consume energy. 3. Power factor
Power factor: is the data used to weigh the efficiency of electrical equipment (e. g. transformers, transmission lines, etc.). Power factor = active power/apparent power.
cos φ = P/[(P2 Q2)^(1/2)], the closer Q is to 0, the greater the power factor.
The power factor is an indicator that reflects the proportional relationship between reactive energy and active energy in electrical energy. This index value is closer to 1, means that the reactive power in the power grid system activities closer to 0, can reduce the power loss caused by reactive power system, at the same time, the user side can also prevent the power supply bureau's reactive fine due to the low power factor.
